Salaam Alaikum Everyone...
I need some help. I am coughing to beat the band here and I am at a loss as to what I can take now that I have a "little Daisy" on board. I have been doing tea with honey and lemon, that helps for a little bit...then I lie down and I start coughing again. I have tried eating a teaspoon of honey. That seems to coat the throat but I am just miserable with this cold. I have body aches and stuffy nose...ughhh. I take one panadol (tylenol) a day and even that scares me.
Aside from tea, honey, lemon, vicks and throat losengers....any other suggestion?? This girl needs some sleep...ASAP. Jet lag, new pregnancy, and a cold make for a crabby woman.... LOOL

Wa alaykum as salaam wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuh.
ReplyDeleteYes...keep it natural now the wee one is relying on you, inshaa'Allah!
Ask your hubby to stop at a Hawaj and pick up these two things:مرة and صنوبر
One is Myrrh and the other some kind of resin from a pine tree. Place a small chunk of each one into a small teacup of water, stir a little, let sit and then drink. amazingly enough upon drinking the concotion you feel a burning sensation in your throat and it really works fast mashaa Allah.
In addition, ginger is wonderful for the cold, cough, and any nausea that might get thrown into the mix. Grate and boil it or pour boiling water on it, let sit for at least 15 minutes and then sweeten with honey.
Allahumma yashfeeki - ameen!
I was gonna suggest ginger, too lol. I have a cold myself, and another natural remedy I've been taking is cinnamon sticks broken into pieces, and boiled for about 10 mins. Use about 4 cups water, and then turn off the heat and let it steep 5 mins. You can add, cardamom, cloves, ginger, fennel seeds, or anise, or black seeds, into the boiling water. Strain it add honey and just keep drinking it every 1-2hrs. Oh and try to avoid sugar, lol if you can. Inshallah you feel better soon! :0)
ReplyDeletesalams sis. When Iget the flu, its so horrible i cant move and sometimes i cry from the pain. Buttt i found that resting under a blanket and keeping hygine is the best. rest for prolonged period of times, drink alot of hot soups and drinks and yes honey does work. Also try to get throat menthols like butter menthols i dont know if they have them in your country but they really soothe the throat. ANd give your immune system alot of good food to help beat it like lemon juice, oragnic fresh squeezed orange juice, ginger and fenugreek in water. All these things help Insha'Allah.
ReplyDeleteOh and also, wrap a scarf around your neck. I hope you get better soon insha'Allah. Allah yeshfeeky habibty.
salaams!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, CONGRATS! How exciting, your going to be a Mommy, inshaAllah =)
Ok, heres what works for me. Cayenne pepper. It soothes a sore throat and helped clear up my stuffy nose (as well as saline drops). Mix 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper in an 8 oz glass of juice drains mucus from your nose and throat. I came down with bronchitis during my second trimester and this really helped along with tea with honey and ginger.

Feel better soon! Oh, and drink loads of water (helps to flush out toxins)
Oh we need to talk! :) Mabrook!
ReplyDeletePS: Caffeine not good for baby. Minimize tea plz (all kinds even herbal). See your doc soon. High fevers also not good (can lead to miscarriage in first trimester). Having said that, I had H1N1 with Oliver and spiked high fevers, but I was in my 2nd trimester (not trying to scare you, ok).
I know we want to avoid meds but if your flue does not get better in 7 days start to finish then you might need antibiotics.
Also, Research shows high (mega doses) of vit. C lead to pregnant women delivering healthy babies with excellent APGAR scores (they called them Vit. C babies). I mega dosed all through both pregnancies and it is good for colds and boosting immune system.
Immune system boosters that you need in your shelf: Vit D (7000 IU), Vit C and Cod liver oil.
RESEARCH ALL HERBAL REMEDIES you are taking: Oil of Oregano and others with strong odors induce uterine contractions so be careful what you take. Herbal is not always baby friendly.
There are flue shots for pregnant women. GET ONE! :) and remember that pregnancy renders a woman immunocompromised as baby takes what it needs first and you get left overs.
PS: no need to post this publicly. This is just my input both as a mom and an MD.
So happy of for you! Get ready though...you are in for the ride of your life. Your life will never be the same again...and welcome to mother hood :)
Mai to the Extreme has a great concoction! Actually - some of the things she suggests are in "Buckleys Mixture" original. If you ever come to canada, pick some up...it's all herbal...burns just as Mai says, tastes awful but really works. I had exactly what you have and it was the only thing that worked... :(
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better now!
